Program Description

Event Details

In the Name of Duration, a FREE performance featuring Marcos Duran / Moving Works, Eric Geiger, Emily Aust, Victor De La Fuente, and Friends. The collective will enter extended performance galleries, experimenting with time, physical endurance, mental agility, and public engagement. The public is welcome to move around the performers as if in an art museum, and may enter and exit the theater as often as they need. The experience is 3 hours long from start to finish.

This Moving Works process is inspired by Marcos Duran's research at the Marina Abramović Institute near Athens, Greece in summer 2024, and in the Sanford Compassionate Communication Academy Fellowship at UC San Diego Health in Fall 2024.

Duran has invited a collective of people into a weekly durational performance practice during the month of April 2025, concluding with interactive, process showings on May 1st and 2nd at the City Heights Performance Annex.

Each person has developed durational prompts between, around, and with one another. It is Duran's hope that sharing this experimental way of working serves as a creative lubricant; a vehicle for collaboration, curiosity, and unexpected growth during such a trying time. What are we enduring? How do we endure?

The collective includes Emily Aust (dance), Sarah Clark (dance), Marcos Duran (dance theater), Amal ElWardi (somatics/dance), Victor de la Fuente (experimental theater), Eric Geiger (dance), Nicholas Naylor-Leyland (contact improvisation), visual artist Derek Weiler PHD (projection animations), and featuring voiceover testimonials from the Sanford Compassionate Communication Academy Fellowship cohort: Joan Le, Todd Salovey, Gerald Tobert, Niamh Higgins, Kelsey Brennan, Michelle Sexton, & Juliana Gomez.

Thursday, May 1st: 3-6pm & 7-10pm.

Friday, May 2nd: 3-6pm & 7-10pm.
